Deputies manning a drunken driving checkpoint in Norco nabbed two suspected burglars with stolen kitchen appliances, the sheriff’s department said today.

The checkpoint was held between 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. today at Bluff Street and River Road, said sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Manning.

“During the operation, deputies observed a sport utility vehicle drive into the checkpoint loaded with large kitchen appliances that limited the driver’s ability to safely operate his vehicle,” Manning said. “Further investigation revealed that the kitchen appliances were stolen during a commercial burglary of a corporate home builder in Eastvale.”

Perris residents Andres Verdugo, 30, and Adolfo Sanchez, 32, were arrested for suspicion of commercial burglary and being in possession of stolen property and booked today into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, Manning said.

Each was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, inmate records showed.

Deputies made five arrests during the checkpoint, three alcohol-related and two drug-related, Manning said. He did not give the names of those arrested.

There were 11 citations issued for improper licensing and eight vehicles were towed, the sergeant said.
